Some yards go beyond a normal lawn mow. When grass has been left for months, weeds are waist-high, vines are growing through fences and the backyard starts looking more like a rainforest than a usable space, it needs a proper yard cleanup.
At MD Lawns & Property, we handle overgrown yard cleanups for properties that have been left too long, become unsafe, or need to be brought back under control. These jobs are ideal for vacant homes, rental properties, deceased estates, injury or illness situations, and yards that have simply got away from the owner.
The goal is to turn an unusable, overgrown area back into a manageable yard. That may include cutting down long grass, clearing weeds, trimming back overgrowth, removing green waste, opening up access areas and making the property look presentable again.
Every overgrown yard cleanup is quoted based on the size of the job, the condition of the property, access, waste removal and the equipment required. These are not standard lawn mowing jobs, so we assess each cleanup properly before starting.
Once the initial cleanup is completed, we can also help with ongoing lawn mowing, weed treatment, lawn fertilising or rubbish removal if the property needs continued care.
Long grass and heavy overgrowth can hide hazards like rocks, timber, rubbish, uneven ground, snakes, spiders, dog waste and garden debris. This is why heavily overgrown jobs need to be approached carefully and are usually completed in stages.
A normal lawn mowing service is for maintained lawns. An overgrown yard cleanup is different. It often requires slower cutting, brush cutting, repeated passes, extra cleanup time and green waste removal. The first visit is about getting the property back under control, not just running a mower over it once.
After the initial cleanup, the lawn may still need follow-up mowing, weed treatment or fertilising to improve its appearance over time. Severely overgrown lawns can look rough after the first cut because the grass underneath has been shaded, weak or flattened for months.
We assess the property condition, access, overgrowth, hazards and waste before quoting.
Overgrown grass is cut back carefully using suitable equipment for the condition of the yard.
Heavy weeds and unwanted growth are cut back to help open up the property again.
Vines, edges, fence lines and garden overgrowth can be trimmed back where required.
Green waste can be removed from site or placed in your green bin, depending on the job.
Paths, driveways and accessible hard surfaces are blown down where practical.
Overgrown yard cleanups are often needed during stressful situations. A property may have been vacant for months, a tenant may have left the yard in poor condition, or a family may need help preparing a deceased estate for sale, rent or inspection.
We understand these jobs can feel overwhelming. The yard may be too large, too overgrown or too physically difficult for the owner or family to manage themselves. We can help bring the outside of the property back to a safer, cleaner and more presentable condition.
If you are not sure where to start, send photos of the front yard, backyard, side access and any major problem areas. Photos help us understand the size of the cleanup and provide better advice before quoting.
